The Society was created in June of 1889 by three physicians who believed they could start a Medical Society:
 

We, the undersigned physicians of the County of Placer, being desirous of establishing a greater degree of fraternity and closer social intercourse, one with another, cordially invite you to meet with us at the Court-House, in Auburn, on the 27th day of June, 1889, then and there to form a COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY and to take such steps as may be deemed expedient to make such an organization permanent. And we would also invite you to present a paper upon some medical or surgical topic, such as you may have leisure to prepare.

Not only were they successful in starting a society, it has continued to grow for over 110 years.
 

PNCMS, a non-profit organization, provides physicians with the opportunity to keep in contact with each other socially and professionally.  It allows for an exchange of clinical and technological information, discussion of the changes in the medical arena, and is a direct link to making policy for physicians and patients.

PNCMS is a component county society of the California Medical Association (CMA).

PNCMS does not license nor does it have legal jurisdiction over physicians. Authority for licensure rests with the State, specifically the Medical Board of California (MBC).
